Reimagine I-175 with us

Welcome to Reimagine 175, a grassroots volunteer organization that wants to see interstate 175 replaced with a street-grade Boulevard. 

We are a city that remembers and learns from its past mistakes. The highway stands where a historic African American community once stood. The thriving and connected neighborhoods of Sugar Hill in the Gas Plant and Old Campbell Park neighborhood were demolished to make way for an interstate spur that has kept our city separated from its Southside for 44 years.

St Pete could be the first city in Florida to remove a highway and replace it with a Boulevard. In the City of St Petes's Downtown Mobility study of 2022, they labeled 175 reconfiguration to be a priority one project and has requested and been allocated funding this summer from FDOT. FDOT will be conducting a  feasibility study, which will likely find that the road remains underutilized, oversized, and that the highway is too expensive to maintain as it gets closer to the end of its life.  

We are here to advocate for an option that gives the people of St Pete the most benefit. We want to see neighborhoods connected together and for the reclaimed land to be developed for affordable housing and public amenities.
